Den Chief Training

"Den Chiefs provide more than a link between a pack and a troop, they also provide an example to the Cub Scout of what they can become!"

Den Chief patch

How does a Boy Scout become a den chief? He must be an older, experienced Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, or Venturer who has been a Boy Scout. Selected by the senior patrol leader and Scoutmaster, Varsity Scout Coach, or Venturing Advisor at the request of the Cubmaster or Webelos den leader. Preferably a former Cub Scout; ideally at least First Class rank. Approved by the Cubmaster and pack committee for recommendation to the Webelos den leader. Registered as a youth member of a troop, team, or crew.

Den Chief training is offered at the council level in Mt Baker Council. Why should you be interested in Den Chief as a leadership position?

Besides being a troop position that can be used for rank requirements, Scouts can have fun!

T he Den Chief training offers the Scout:

  • What the responsibilities of a Den Chief are.
  • How to support the Den Leader.
  • How to communicate effectively with Cub Scouts.
  • Games and tricks to astound your Den.

Cubs really do look up to older Boy Scouts.

Scoutmasters:

  • Improve your pack relations
  • Boys in dens will be inclined to join a troop where they know someone, like their Den Chief.
  • Helps your Scouts gain confidence.
  • Gives younger boys an idea of what they will get out of Boy Scouting.

Check the Mt Baker Council web site for the next Den Chief training session, or contact your District Training team.
